Load leveling shocks and Weight Dist Hitch setups

The WDH won't have any issues with load leveling shocks, but the WDH needs to be configured properly. Measure the front fender gap to the ground before and after you hook the trailer up. The manual calls for 50% front weight restoration, so if the front rises by 1" when you attach the camper it...

New 18 expedition Limited owner. Please help.

Some owners complained about the shock absorbers failing prematurely on the 4th gen. The symptom is generally fluid leaking from the shock, or harsh rebound over sharp bumps. When my rears were going out, passengers would get launched out of their seats in the 3rd row. First check tire...

    "Carbon buildup on fuel injectors"

I seriously doubt they pulled the injectors to check for carbon buildup. Sounds like the stealership tryna steal. OP: Just use top tier fuel and you'll be fine.

New 18 expedition Limited owner. Please help.

How many miles? Might want to get an ESP. Biggest issue on that gen is the cam phasers. Some people have issues with the ten speed as well.

    303 Graphene Nano Spray Coating

Generally the spray products trade longevity for ease of use. I wouldn't expect this to last as long as something with more solids and less solvent, but perhaps as a maintenance coating for an existing sealant. I use reddit as a resource for info on car care products. Some of those folks are...

Thoughts on weaknesses of AFM, MDS, and how Ford Expedition stacks up

Third row is much more useable on the Expedition due to the IRS. Some people like the solid axle, but I'm definitely not one of them. I did put a Hellwig on the rear recently and it was a nice upgrade, even for daily driving. The Ecoboost is also a much stronger engine than the GM offerings...

    2016 Intermittent loss of power

I think I've heard of this stemming from a fuel pump failing. Try searching for those symptoms. The throttle body failure is also common, but I think it usually throws a code.

    Need info on shocks

Several forum users have installed the Bilstein 5100s on their Expeditions 3rd gens. Check strut part numbers between model years for compatibility. https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/installed-bilstein-5100s-thoughts-impressions-lessons-learned.55857/...

No personal experience, but many people swear by the 5100s. Try searching for reviews on those.

    It can be done!

Thanks all. So it seems as though there's no mounting bracket on top like with the F150. I didn't see one, but wanted to confirm before taking anything apart. Most install videos cover the F150 rather than this gen Expedition.

    It can be done!

Did the grill have the rivets on top, or was it screwed in? I can access the top bracket for the intercooler from either the bumper or grill, but one video I watched on an earlier model year had the grill riveted in. I don't want to buy a tool for this.

    Tow capacity

You'll likely be well over the tow limit when it's loaded. I'm assuming your number is GVWR for the trailer since no one really knows how much their stuff weighs until they visit a scale. Without HD Tow, you're rated for 6,000 lbs max with a loaded trailer. You could probably do it, but you'll...

    It can be done!

How did you remove the bumper cover? There's a weird clip in the corner and it's so hot here my patience is thin. But I'd like to get this intercooler installed.

Liftgate trim panel removal different from other models seen online

That sucks, but glad you were able to figure it out. The camera connection on the wire hardness is not sufficiently water and dirt proof. I've cleaned it twice and the last time I tried liquid tape and dielectric grease. It still fails to maintain a solid connection. This past week I gave in...

There are body clips holding it on. I've never touched the wiper bolt for this.

NGK makes the Motorcraft plugs. Either will work with proper gap and heat range.

Maintenance for 2018 Max Limited at 180,000 miles

Honestly, I see far more issues with plugs mentioned, frequently sourced to the the plug gaps opening up. I see comparatively fewer complaints about the coils. And when there is an issue, it's usually intermittent, or reproducible under certain circumstances, like high load. I've never seen...

Maintenance for 2018 Max Limited at 180,000 miles

Misfire code. Then you check plug gaps and swap coils between cylinders to find the cause. My coils are still going at 150k. Like the plugs, I don't think proactive replacement is needed unless there's an issue. Lifespan will vary so much based on driving conditions. It's not like fluids where...

    Rookie tow question

I strongly recommend the Max. In addition to the improved stability from the longer wheelbase, it comes with a larger gas tank. This is very advantageous when getting 9 mpg while towing. I generally travel ~250 miles between gas stops while towing. The extra five or so gallons makes a really big...

Which Weight Distribution hitch do you use

I assume you won't be buy it then? I use a Husky Centerline 32218. Works great, no complaints. Some people swear by the Hensley / ProPride, but I suspect many of them did not visit a scale for setup before dropping that coin.

Maintenance for 2018 Max Limited at 180,000 miles

The Motorcraft plugs are made by NGK. Either one is fine if the correct part number is used. If the plugs have never been replaced, there's no harm in replacing them. The difficulty level can vary based on the condition of the boots. The first time I replaced mine, most of the boots ripped...

    Hood Deflector Options?

Try polishing the impacted area and put two coats of Collinite 476 on it. It will make the bug remains much easier to rinse off.

Maintenance for 2018 Max Limited at 180,000 miles

Not directed to me, but I'll add my two cents. So much depends on your driving cycle, fuel, etc. Long highway trips are easier on oil and plugs than shorter driving, which will see more RPM changes and higher RPMs. For plugs, the gaps open up within 60K, but you might not see misfires until well...
