So I purchased a set of HID bulbs and new clear assemblies... The new assemblies have that little blocker, that I assume is to reflect the light back for more illumination. Honestly, I have no clue what to call them.. But do they need to be removed? Or do they stay in? I ask because I thought HIDs had to be in non-reflective housings..

Thanks for any help!

The stock HID's on my old focus had a little shield in them that made a perfect cutoff so you don't blind any oncoming traffic. On that car the shield moved when you switched to high beam.

HID's are meant for projector housings, where the beam is projected at certain angles which reduces glare to oncoming traffic. Your lights are reflective housing which that "little blocker" your referring to diffuses the light beam to bounce it back to the chrome housing which reflects the light forward. The glare to oncoming traffic will be pretty bad. Which is why its actually illegal in some states. Illegal such as in my state, I would not be able to pass inspection with HID's installed unless they were factory. Now if they were in a projector housing, they would be ok with it I believe.

HIDs are meant for housings designed for HIDs. There are halgen projectors and there are HID reflector housings(like my 05 Navi with factory HIDs).

You should not be using HIDs in housings meant for helogens. HOwever people do it all the time. There will be more light but the beam pattern will be off which will result in less of the additional light actually being useful and may actually be worse as the light may be scattered causing eye fatigue and glare for other drivers.

If you do continue adding HIDs to your halogen housings keep the shrouds in.
