Just joined this forum – should have looked for it years ago.

I currently own a 2003 XLT and previously owned a 1997 XLT. Prior to that a 1990 Bronco and a 1985 Bronco II.

I like to tinker slightly with them- I didn’t do much to the 1997 – added the driving light kit from the factory- luckily the wiring harnesses were there already. Added the skid plates. I played around with cold intakes, chips and mass flow sensors – but they never really did anything except eventually cause the check engine light to come on until I reverted to stock. I miss the fold down armrest on the front seat of that truck everyday.

On the 2003 I really disliked the grille from the factory – plus the fact that there was no lower grill – made me buy a billet grille kit. I’ve added the skid plates and last year had the shocks from the off road version put on – which is the best investment you can make IMHO. What an improvement tin the ride – esp. towing.

I have two current projects going on. I’m going to put a Borla cat back system on next week.

What I’m really writing about is the side mirrors. I was really jealous that the Eddie Bauer’s had turn signals in the mirrors and the XLTs did not.

I was able to pick up left and right EB mirrors fairly quickly in 2003 on ebay and put them on. I just assumed that Ford would have just used one wiring harness and that just switching the mirrors out would do the trick. Boy was I bummed when I discovered there was no turn signal wire at the connector. So I’ve had EB turn signals on my truck for 4 years that don’t work. After having a lot of work done on the truck last week including a new head gasket, driver side door actuator and new plates in the differential – luckily all covered under the ESP extended warranty, I decided I’d better get these things working before I don’t own it anymore.

I started with the driver’s side. I’ve got the service manual including the wiring one and identified the wire I was looking for – green with a white stripe under the dash. I got lucky and the first one I probed worked. I need to get a clamp type multimeter though. I spliced a wire onto the mirror wiring harness – one of those pink clamp on ones and fed the wire through the door jam boot and through the access port on the side and then spliced it onto the wire. Unbelievably it worked the first time. So I’m pretty psyched. I’m trying to only make left turns right now –planning out my whole trip.

The passenger side door is more challenging. Although routing the wire into the cab is the same, I haven’t mapped out how I’m going to run it across through or below the dash.

Also while I was under the dash looking for the green with white stripe wire I never saw the white with blue stripe wire which is supposed to be the passenger side turn signal. That’s why I need the clamp on mulitmeter. I’m not going to start probing every white wire under there.

Any thoughts on the wiring would be appreciated either the best way to run it or which white/blue wire to look for.

I can also talk at length about dusting brakes and leaky sun roofs if you’d like. I see those are popular topics and I think I know why.

You did not mention the wiring for the reverse operation of the 2003 EB mirrors (part of the backup aid functions). Did your XLT include that feature and do the mirrors you found contain the motors?

Thought I'd ask because that is something else you may need to tackle

i have the same issue after i decided to change the side mirrors of my existing Ford Expedition 2010 with side mirrors containing turn lamps/indicators. When i dismantled the door panel i was disappointed that the same connector wouldn't work.

Although i installed the new side mirrors with turn lamps but Now i am looking for wiring diagram to fix the turn lamp issue
