Hello. I'm new to the forum. I love my 2000 Expedition XLT 4.6L. I'm glad to have surfed across this forum. No problems ever! After work one day I had a dead battery. Got a jump start. Pull gear shifter down into drive and the radio and wipers quit working. I shifted back into park and the radio and wipers would work again. Battery checked out bad. Put in a new battery. Started car at the parts store after battery installation and heard a quick 1 sec. noise (noise like that of trying to start car while car is already running). Radio and wipers good. I shifted into gear and radio and wipers quit! I got the car home and smelled an awful burnt smell. OK, I'll take it to the shop in the morning. Next morning, in driveway car won't start. No sound. Tried jumping off, no sound when key turned, nothing! Towed to shop. They found burnt wires from starter to solenoid. Starter and wires replaced. Picked up car and drove down the street and radio and wipers died again!!! Immediately turned around and took car back to shop. Both I and the service manager smelt that bunrt smell. Car start ok. New starter and wires look OK. Something was burning! But what? Any ideas on the solution to my problem? Thanks, Keith

Thanks JUST4FUN

Thanks JUST4FUN. The local Lincoln Mercury dealer made the same diagnosis after a new starter and a new solenoid. I now feel somewhat confident that this might actually be the problem. I'll post the results of this issue next week when I get the Expedition back from the shop.

I was told that they would have to pull the dash out for this fix. Is this true? Would the GEM module cause all three problems; The wipers, the radio and the burnt up starter and wires?

Thanks.
