I have an 08 - Limited EL and the battery has been giving me issues for a couple of years. I have brought it to my Ford dealership at least 4 times and they can't find any problem. According to my dealership they have disconnected the rear wiper and the power running boards because they weren't working properly or not working at all. The problem of the battery draining still exists. I have also replaced the battery twice to no avail. The latest was on Monday, I started the truck up with no problems, drove a couple of miles to the store and when I came out it didn't start. Got a boost and have been Ok since.

To my question, is .03-.04 amps a normal drain for this vehicle when I think everything is off? I would have thought my many trips to service would have discovered something.

Thanks,

Don

Normal current draw once all the electronics are "off" should be 30-50 mA. One mA = .001A

In order to start troubleshooting we need to know the battery voltage at different times. Readings should be taken with a multimeter.
1) Prior to starting - gives us a starting point
2) Engine running - gives us charging voltage
3) When it doesn't start after it has been running - gives us the battery state of charge at this point.

2008 - Battery Drain

Here's voltage for 1 & 2. I'll report back on 3) when it fails to start.

1) Prior to starting - 12.11
2) Engine running - 14.49

I may attempt tomorrow to perform a test for battery drain.

Battery voltage & % of charge:
12.6 = 100%
12.4 = 75%
12.2 = 50%
12.0 = 25%
11.8 = 0%

You may have a battery issue, the car wasn't running long enough to fully charge the battery or there is a problem in the harness.
The charging voltage is within spec.
Any electrical testing should be done with a fully charged battery, if possible.
