Possible fix!
My 07 EL was doing the same thing on fill up. When the pump clicked off the gas would start spewing out. Today I took the lower rubber filler pipe off (between the tank and the metal middle section of the filler pipe) and replaced it with a check valve from Home Depot and some hose and hose clamps from Orielly's. Went back to Costco where the problem began about 10 months ago and not a drop jumped out at me, not even a burp, bubble, splash...
Note: You may be tempted, but don't chop up your original hose just yet, go buy a different hose to graft in a check valve to test if this fixes your problem. If it doesn't you'll be glad you still have your original hose. Make sure the hose is rated for fuel, not as important if this is just temporary to see if it fixes the problem until you get the final solution like I am doing. Mine is still temporary and I will be finalizing the fix soon. Time permitting I will post the final solution if there is enough interest.
Some history:
I had already tried the Evap thing by disconnecting it then driving to Costco to fill up (CEL came on of course). The gas spewed out as usual. I actually took the tank out 3 days ago and inspected everything. The only thing I noticed was that the check valve for the filler pipe in the tank would sometimes get stuck when I pushed it down with a screwdriver it would not always pop back up and close. So I headed to the Internet for more research. Check out the Jeep forum, some good stuff there. I am investigating the GM fix. Post by Ken12 on that forum "Google search on "GM part #15131046" and it showed up at GMPartsDirect.com". For now though my Home Depot $12 check valve was a better fix than a $1000 tank. This is what I am using temporarily with some pipe I got from Orielly's. Check valve: "FlotecSump Pump Inline Check Valve Model # FP0026-10 Internet # 100021846 Store SO SKU # 441622". Hose 1 1/4 inch Inner Diameter. When installing, if you choose to do this, make sure the direction of flow is correct and for me I made sure that the flapper hinge was at the top so gravity would always help it close.
