I know. There isn't even an ashtray. That makes no sense. Are you using yours to power a phone or anything?

Ford is talking mostly about high draw accessories like inverters or air compressors.
For phone charging, etc, it's fine. None of those usb chargers put out more than 2 amps at 5 volts, so you'll never blow a 12v 5a fuse.

If you have a phone or gps charger that does blows the fuse, it's most likely the plug itself arching and shorting. Make sure that it fits tightly in the socket and there isn't anything metallic that could short the pin to the sides.

another possibility is that by using a charger or acc plug it could cause the prongs inside of the lighter receptacle to spread apart and possibly short out. If you look inside od a power port receptacle and light receptacle you will see the difference

it is always best to check the owners manual to see the amp ratings of any circuit before adding extra loads on that circuit

I'm thinking that ford say's not to use it 'cause it isn't switched off with the ignition. So one could leave something plugged in and end up with a dead battery.
