I bought this 1999 Exp. 5.4L with code P0304. I know why I am getting the code someone before me tried to fix the coil or plug and broke the boot off and did try to get it out but the part they left in is about an inch long. Any ideas it is tight spot. I though I would ask before I do what I was thinking.
I was thinking about heating a spark plug socket red hot and seeing if I could melt the boot enough to get the socket on. They where nice enough to put the coil top back on with no spring or boot.
The passenger side exhaust manifold is also leaking and I was going after that next. what's the worst case I have to pull the head. :Rock on:

You would be better off digging the damaged boot piece out with a pick and then blowing the rubber debris out of the spark plug well with compressed air.

Just a suggestion along with what Bad Ronald has suggested
Try spraying some lub down into the broken off boot to soften the boot and also cause the lub to get between the plug and boot. then take a deep well socket that will fit over the broken boot and twist it around. It may help brake up the boot or even loosen it up to the point the you can remove it

Before you completely remove the plug make sure you blow out any pieces and dirt in the well.

You might also try spraying with a lube (WD-40 etc) and using a grabber to get it out. Worked for me when then rubber insert from a spark plug socket came off in the hole.

I had 6 boots tear while replacing the plugs in my truck. What I did was dig out what I could with needle nose pliers, then use a standard deep well socket to go over the boot down on to the hex pay of the spark plug. I had to tap on a few over the rubber. Use a small hammer, don't go crazy.
