I have an 06 Expy and the steering wheel leather is bad. I bought it new and its been bad for a long time. Anyways, the wife got a new car and I am fixing it up and first thing I did was rip her pink $10 walmart steering wheel cover off which exposes all the leather dye that has been worn off as well as some the leather that is almost worn through on the top. I want to make it look new again. Used steering wheels all seem to be in similar condition. I am thinking about recovering it all together. However, I don't see any kits out there. The Wheelskinz version won't look factory since the spokes come in about an inch and a half. Plus, I don't want the wheel to be any thicker than it is. Anyone know where to get a kit? I see a couple of companies that offer upholstery service. Anyone know what they charge for that? Any other suggestions?

I have always planned to try to re-wrap a wheel with factory patterns, but I haven't gotten around to it so I don't have any answer for you on that, but I will tell you that I had a 96 Camaro and used a wheelskins wrap for that and it turned out fantastic. The wheel did not get thicker because I cut the laces and removed the factory leather first. Maybe you can wrap the cover around the wheel, mark 1/4" under the new cover where the factory pattern is different, cut and remove the rest of the factory wrap and try the cover then.

I hope this makes sense.

Texpedition-those are nice. The 06 has a different wheel but I checked out the ones for the 06 and they would make a perfect replacement. They have the hard insert at the top which is where I always wear through the leather. I emailed craftcustoms.com and they will recover it back to factory condition (actually they say better than factory due ot their higher standards) and they charge $250 for that. I have been looking at other wheels hoping to find another vehicle that uses a similar one but nothing is the identical which mean that it would involve changing out things like airbags and that sounds like a dangerous idea. I bought a like new but used wheel a long time ago, but its a lot darker than the med parchment. My friend says I should go ahead and install it and he believes that it wouldn't bother me after about 10 minutes which is what I am thinking of doing.

I checked out their website and it turns out they are not too far from where I live. I am going to see if I can find a time to go to their shop and check them out. The information on their website says they offer what I am looking for, short of purchasing a new steering wheel. The problem with sending them my steering wheel is that it's just so darned hard to drive a car without one. If I get by there I'll post what I find. If I have them do the work, I'll post before and after pics. Thanks for the website link.

I got to go see if I could find their shop yesterday and the address listed on their website is a postal service storefront. So, I'm guessing one has to send the wheel to them and wait to get it back. I'll see about making a phone call.
