My beater with a heater took a dump so now I'm forced into daily driving my 2003 5.4 4x4 expedition.e I'm just looking to get a few more mpgs because I have a 50miles round trip and 14.5 mpgs is killing me. Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!!

Gotts mod! There have been a couple of postings of Gen 2's with Gotts mods.
Also, keep a clean paper filter in it. Don't get wrapped up in the hype and lies of a K&N filter. The oil will goo up your MAF and cause lots of other problems.
A little exhaust work could probably gain a little bit too. A Magnaflow or Flowmaster muffler will most likely out perform the stock can, as well as sound meaner.

Ok thanks. I saw the gotts mod and have been looking at it. As for exhaust I'm thinking of going with a catback just not sure the setup I want yet . First Ford I've owned so looking for what others have done.

I saw a couple mpg increase with my k&n intake...then I added flomaster 40 exhaust and saw an increase in mpg again...then I got a programmer...most drastic increase combined with intake and exhaust...18-19 city 22-23 hwy mpg...dont worry about headers...u will see no change

How does the 40 sound on these?? I was thing of going with a borla or magnaflow just to try something different. I don't mind it being loud either.

The 40 doesn't sound bad. Mine gets a little droan about 1800rpm's. I think I would prefer the Magnaflow over the Flowmaster. But I had the FM40 laying around so I used it.
The Flowmaster is not "loud" by any means. But at least now I can hear the engine whereas I couldn't hear it stock.

I've got a borla proxs on mine. Sounds great. It does sing to me from 1800-2200 rpm, but not a metallic drone like a flowmaster.
