try unplugging the amp at the amp...turn it on and see if it still pops...did you use a wiring harness or spliced all connections to factory wiring? since u got a dead battery afterwards im thinking its the remote wire still having power...if u still get a pop after unplugging the sub amp it is definitely in your wiring and the power source wires...did you connect the antenna wire? i dont think i connected the antenna wire on my pioneer avic-d3...but the remote wire is connected...if it still doesnt help...idk...i would suggest going to an audio shop if this doesnt get u closer...

I had this same issue a couple of years ago with a JVC head unit in my 2003 Sport Trac...the sub would "pop" when everything powered on.

It seems to be a voltage supply issue from the remote "switch on" wire of the HU. It is solved by using a $2 fixed voltage regulator from Radio Shack on the remote power-On lead.... like this:

Maybe check this short thread....

System pop - Ford Explorer and Ranger Forums "Serious Explorations"®

I've actually gotta do this to our 05 EB this weekend, as I've got a "pop!" after adding a JVC HU to this truck, too. Also gotta install a SWCI.....

Cheers, all!

Yep. Number 2 is what I'm shooting for. It seems that the amp turn-on is just over 9, almost 10 volts. Installing that little regulator reduces it down to 5 volts and BAZINGA! No more POP!

BTW, I had set the gain to low...#1; Started getting the pop when I swapped the OE stereo with a JVC hu...no pop before with OE hu...#3; No pop before installing new stereo, so I assume the amp's grounds are just as good now as they were yesterday. Only thing left is #2.

And thanks for linking to that blog!

Cheers!

I installed my pioneer avic-d3 and never had any issues with the hu...I had a bad ground on my aftermarket amp for my 18" sub but that is a quick fix...clean the ground site properly and to a good ground point...hope the links provided works out...not bad for $2

Ahh i should have read these replies sooner. This past weekend i went as far as reinstalling my OEM Ford radio and found that the "amp enable" lead puts out 7V and the Pioneer puts out 12V. My thought was to put a resistor to dissipate the remaining 5V, but the voltage regulator idea sounds better.

On 2nd thought, i will take apart an old cigarette lighter USB charger, those things are 12V input and 5V output... Perfect! :)

I built a voltage divider circuit using 2 resistors (image attached) Took a reading with my meter and measures 5.2V at the amp now. No more pop noise :)
