For those of you with aftermarket amps installed, do you have the "turn on thump" where the sub thumps once when the head unit is turned on? I read it's because most vehicles require 12v while Fords only use 5v. I have the thump with my original head unit and 1600w amp/sub setup, I'm installing a new head unit and I'm wondering if a converter like this would fix it:

Axxess AFDI-5V 12-volt to 5-volt converter — eliminates the turn-on "thump" in Ford-built vehicles with amplified systems at Crutchfield.com

I read the description on Crutchfield and it looks like this is for the opposite situation, aftermarket HU but stock everything else, where the aftermarket unit is outputting too much voltage. Just want to know if this is something I should install when I put the new head unit in or if anyone else is using one.

Its not the hu...its ur amp...u need to reroute the remote wire for the amp to another fuse...its receiving a surge from the source your remote wire is connected to...also make sure u have a GOOD GROUND...ground must be bare metal and not connected to anything like a seatbelt or anything else...not on a painted surface...this too will aid in thump

Thanks, have the remote from amp wired to my line output converter, probably not the best way. Ground is good it's tight on body below 3rd row seat with paint removed. The new head unit has remote out so I could go that route or should I wire to a fuse?
