How difficult is it to swap the roof rails? I have an 03' and I want the raised rails from and 05' or 06'. Do I simply unscrew them and replace? Do I need to use silicone in the hole? Please let me know, I would like to do it myself.

Can you tell me how difficult this was? I would like to do it at home one afternoon. Do just unbolt one and swap for the other? Do I need to seal the holes with something? I would just like a few details before I get started. Thanks

I pulled them off my 05 Navi. Just unscrew and remove. There didn't seem to be any type of sealant on them. I used non hardening gasket maker and reinstalled the bolts to keep water out.

The Navi/Expi use "wellnuts". You can find them in hardware stores if you don't
want to re use them. They are self sealing brass threaded inserts bonded to rubber that squeezes itself up into the hole when tightened, so no sealent needed.

Do I need to get under the headliner inside the truck? Can it all be done from the outside?

I did exactly the same swap that you're proposing. It is a simple "unbolt the old ones and bolt the new ones in place" Nothing more, nothing less. It is all done from the outside. You do not need to get under the headliner for anything. I think it took me a grand total of about 20 minutes to complete the swap.

Right. Wellnuts work just like blind or "pop" rivets but doubles at sealing the hole. That's why they are used in marine applications. No getting under, behind or in back
of anything.
