On the second gen, '03 and '04 racks are the same as
'97-'02 1rst gen.
The well nut holes are the same spacing to accept either
rack on 2nd gen. I put the old channel type from my '97 in
exchange for my '05 plastic one. I'm opposite of metaldrgn in that
I feel that the older rack has a cleaner appearance. It is almost invisable,
especially if you slide out the factory aero crossbars. I already had all the
extra mounting accessories, Thule and stock crossbars made for
that rack from my old '97, rather than buy new stuff for the newer
plastic rack and still have to buy crossbars. Now, for the sharper eye,
my '05 looks like an '03 or '04 going down the road, for the rack
types are the quickest way to tell the different years.
If anyone prefers that rack metaldrgn likes rather than the older one on '03
or '04, I still have mine.
