I'm a newbie on this forum and did a search first, but didn't find this topic. I have a 2012 Expedition and desire changing the tranny over to AmsOil. In the past, I'd drain the pan, but in a new filter, disconnect the oil lines at the cooler, and run the vehicle to pump out the old fluid while pouring in the new. I'd see the color change at the cooler (this technique drains the converter with out the "flushing" risk) and I'd know I'd have new fluid.

Unfortunately, the new Ex doesn't have a dipstick (really Ford?). In the above process I'd adjust the fill to the appropriate volume by reading the dipstick.

My real question is; would I be save totally draining the oil while the vehicle idles (to run the tranny oil pump) while draining ALL the oil out by disconnecting at the cooler? I'd then know how much oil to put back in by the capacity requirements.

Thanks in advance.

there is acually a dip stick, where the tube would normally go in the trans there is a silver hex cover threaded in the case. remove that and there is a small dipstick there. but to check it your expy has to be running and the converter is right there, put on heat resisant gloves to check. otherwise you could drain and replace fluid like normal

Heh, I think a lot of manufacturers are doing away with dipsticks.
