Hi, all. First post here. Hope you can help.

I have a 2013 Limited. As you face the rear, on the left of the hitch there is a 4 flat plug. On the right, there is a 7 round plug.

I have a boat trailer with surge breaks. I have a 7-to-5 adaptor and the instructions say or the surge break override to work with the adaptor, my expedition's yellow wire from the 7 round receptacle needs to connect with the backup circuit/wire.

Anyone know if the yellow wire coming out of the 7 round receptacle on this vehicle ties into the backup circuit?

***************

On my 2005 Explorer, I manually tapped into the backup light with an adaptor that plugged into the 4 flat on the truck. It was a 4-to-5 flat adaptor that overrode the surge breaks. Want the same capability on the expedition and hope the 7-to-6 adaptor can do it as is.

Thanks all.

Something doesn't sound right. The yellow wire powers left turn and brake light. The purple wire powers the back up lights, which would override the the surge brakes in reverse. Can you post a link of which adapter and the instructions you're referencing?

No idea but any reputable auto parts store should be able to sell you an adapter that will work just fine with your surge brakes.

I will just try it in the morning. I get the purple vs yellow thing. It does say yellow, but I see purple on the picture and other searches.

We'll find out if it works, I guess.

I don't have the wiring diagrams for the 2013 model year but this is one thing that Ford has been consistent on is trailer wiring. The 7 pin connector on the rear of the expedition. The center pin is for back up lights to the trailer. That should give you what you need. I would turn the key to the on position with the engine off Place the gear shift in R and then check the center pin to ground to see if you have 12 Volts present. If no voltage it could be that a fuse is blown or missing. Check your owners manual. The 2007 model does show a fuse in that circuit so most likely your 2013 will have a fuse for the reverse circuit also. This would be a separate fuse just for the trailer reverse circuit.

UPDATE: Fuse # 58 in the battery junction box is for the trailer reverse lamp circuit and again that would be the center pin on the trailer connector
