Quick question.
I have an 05 Expy (4R75E trans) that I’m about to replace the torque converter in. There are basically 2 available locally; a ‘high stall’ and a ‘low stall’. Best I can find the ‘low stall’ is somewhere in the 1700-1900rpm range and the ‘high stall’ is more like 1900-2100. Just a quick stall test (stop the brake and gas it) seems to indicate I probably have about a 2000rpm stall speed now (high stall). I’d rather put in the ‘low stall’ version as I HATE a sloppy feeling TC (I find the stock one to be a bit more ‘loose’ than I like) however, I’m a bit concerned that the turbine sensor on this tranny will not ‘see’ the stall speeds it expects and throw it into a limp mode. Anyone have any experience with this? I know the safe bet is to just stay stock but like I said, I prefer a ‘tighter’ feeling TC (actually I prefer a good old fashioned clutch but that’s another discussion). I hoping to do the job this weekend so I need to get my info together quick.
Thanks.

Any update on your changeover as I'm sitting the the exact same issue at the moment, need to replace the TC but unsure if I should get the "low" or "high" stall.

I ended up guessing that I had the high stall and I was correct. Replacing the TC solved all of my tranny issues. Dropping the tranny ended up being a reasonably easy job. You'll want to clear a full day for it though.

I have since sold the truck though as I felt it was just more trouble than it was worth. I bought another 1st gen and couldnt be happier. Good luck to you.
