Yes. I would like to see this one too. I don't like AWD. I like to select when I go into 4x4 if I need it. If it does go out of AWD then I am in. If it does not then that is alot of work for nothing.

I want the ability to disable it for a reason not mentioned.
Say I'm out on the road and one of these 35" tires goes flat or blows out....
I will only have a 265/70/17 spare to put on and the drivetrain will be pissed and/or damaged running the 1 smaller diameter tire no?

I will have to look into it and see how it stays on even with the wire cut. Maybe a different transfercase will work? One without AWD

from what i have heard, as posted on page 1, you will not be able to fully disable the
A4WD on these transfer cases unless you put in a new switch and ecu to put it into 2wd. and im not even sure if you can do that with ours, you might have to replace the whole transfer case.
slo, as for you, you would defintely have problems running 2 different size tires if you had a blow out. if i were you, get a tire that is equally as tall (doesnt have to be as wide) that you can run as a spare. you can get them from a used tire shop pretty cheap. can even mount it on the stock spare rim.

Yeah. I have been looking at the EVTM and Shop manual for the 2002 EXPED for the brown wire mod. I am just wondering that if no power is tranfered to the coil, then how it will engauge? Or how is the coil locking the clutches when it is not activated. It looks like in the awd position there is resisted current sent to the coil that can , i guess engauge the coil then the TOD will intervien and run the supplied voltage to the coil causing the lock up it needs on "slip" from the front and rear input shaft sensor readings. But disconnecting the brown wire should give it no power to the coil causeing an open.

I guess the only way I would be able to tell is if I remove the wire from the harness connector at the transfercase and run the expedition on my hoist. If it is still engauged then it would be a transfercase thing. And thats where a non AWD transfercase could theroretically could be installed. Then when you switch to awd, it would not be able to activate a coil that now does not exist giving you a 2wd mode. In therory of course.

Ok, just clipped the light brown wire going to the top of the transfer case, backed the rear of the truck in water and spun the 35's sitting still.
I don't care if a4wd works again so I just capped both ends of the cut wire.
4hi and 4lo still work normally.

I think I removed the brown wire from my trans harness that goes into the transfercase. The front wheels still go round and round.

I had mine on a lift and after cutting the wire the front tires would still spin in the air. However, they don't pull on the ground because the rear tires will now spin on wet pavement with no reaction from the front tires, just like a 2wd truck.
4Hi and 4Lo work normally.
