Good morning everyone and I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I would like to share something with you regarding the two fittings for the transmission cooling system (?). Bear with me please. I don't know a lot about vehicles.
I have a 2001 Expedition that I bought used. The thing runs great and looks awesome. I started noticing a leak coming from under the front driver's side and of course I checked all the fluid levels but they were fine. I put a piece of cardboard under my truck and noticed that the leak was pretty significant.
Not knowing what to do or where to take my truck I asked my neighbor to recommend a mechanic and she did. I took my truck to a garage on Wednesday. The guy put the truck up on the lift and checked it from front to back and luckily there was no leak coming from the transmission. Whew.
He lowered the truck and looked under the hood. Lots of wet stuff. He sprayed some cleaner so we could see where the leak was coming from and let me tell you, that cleaner stuff is great! Wow.
The mechanic explained to me about the tranny cooling system and showed me two fittings. One on top and one below. That's where the transmission fluid was leaking from. He checked the fluid level and it was low a quart. He told me to check it when the truck is running. I didn't know.
He filled the reservoir and tightened all the screws on the pressure bands on both fittings and told me to return on Monday to the garage.
I have been keeping an eye on my truck and so far, no leaks!!!
I have to believe that this is where the transmission fluid was pouring out of because there isn't one drop of fluid on the cardboard, none on the fittings and everything is clean and dry.
I was so worried that my tranny was shot.
