2008 class 3 tow package

I'm thinking about getting a Travel Trailer this summer and would love some input on how much of a trailer I can look at as far as total weight

2016 Heartland Sundance XLT 291QB. 32' 5700 lbs empty weight, 690 lb tongue, and 7690 GVWR. My Expy tows it just fine even at 7000 ft. We will see how that holds up in mountain passes at 10000 ft. later this summer. The Equal-I-zer hitch is everything they say it is so I would say a load leveling hitch with sway control is a must.

Used the Expedition to tote home a 7 x 12 aluminum utility.

We did our first tow of the season with our new 2016 Expedition EL Limited. We tow a Keystone Cougar 31SQB. 7,100 dry, probably 8,500 lbs. loaded. Towed like a dream. Can't say enough good things about the Ecoboost engine and self-leveling shocks.

Here is my 06 Expy Limited towing my 27' Gulfstream Innsbruck travel trailer. Even with the weight distribution hitch, it squats pretty good... Not sure if my suspension is beat or what.

Trailer dry weight is 6300#, I almost always travel with empty tanks so we might be 7000-7300# total. No idea on the tongue weight yet, haven't been on the interstate to get to scales.

Suggestions?

Wow that's pretty awesome to see a Expy towing that much! You pics make me wonder how my 06 would look towing 6300lbs with the leveling kit that's on it lol

That has a full slide forward of the axle so even with weight distribution I can guarantee you'll squat hard due to what I guess to be at least an 800lb tongue weight! What hitch are you running and what's it rated for? 500, 1000lb?

Here I am towing a 28' with a full slide 2/3 forward of the axle and I am getting good squat too, about the same total weight as well.

I have towed a 31' Keystone Cougar with dual slides. Empty weight around 7,100. Probably loaded in the 8,500-9,000 lb range. I have towed it with a 2005 Expedition, 2009 Expedition and now a 2016 Expedition. With the exception of the squat on 2005 and 2009, the Expeditions have handled the weight with no problem. However, squat was always an issue. I researched the heck out of it and found that there is really no solution. Maybe stiffer springs, but that brings other issues. Because of the coil-over-strut design, no aftermarket air suspension is available. My 2016 I ordered with the new self-leveling Nivomat style shocks. They work perfectly! Hitch up, it squats. After a few miles driving, the shocks level the truck perfectly. The Nivomat design is completely stand alone-no wiring, pumps, electronics. Just the shock. This is a long shot, but I wondered (when I had the 2009 Expy) if the shocks could be purchased and installed on an earlier model Expedition. I'm not sure who could answer that question, but it is the simplest solution that I never attempted.

Also, just a follow up-check your struts. One of mine was leaking and I ended up replacing both rear struts. That wasn't the problem, but it sure didn't help!
