One problem I never had with my F-150 was the rear window getting dusted up to the point where it is difficult to see out. The Expedition has this inherent problem with the rear window just due to the vacuum-induced slip stream that sucks everything into it while driving any speed.

I remember in the "old" days of the 70s and 80s where the big station wagons and similar vehicles had air-flow deflectors built in across the rear of the roof line above the rear glass to deflect air downward across the rear glass.

Is there anything similar OEM or after market that can be installed on the Expedition that would keep a flow of air across the rear window to fill the vacuum and blow away any dust? I have researched this and have found nothing, which is surprising.

Thanks for any input (or vacuum relief...).:burnout:

I have a 2015 Expediton Limited 4x4 and the rear window seems to get dirty quickly.

I use the rear window washer and wiper to keep it clean - very easy.

I also treat the rear window (only) with RainX, which seems to help the dirt wash off easier.

Yeah the RainX does help with the surfactant. Makes the dust blow off more easily. For me, using the washer is not a good option since I travel off road 4X4 often. Even in town, the dust is bad. I live in high desert country where the sun shines 90% of the days and rain is rare in summer months, so dust is our constant neighbor (we don't choose our neighbors...).

My issue with using the washer/wiper often is the very abrasive nature of dust will ultimately haze the window and wear out the blade prematurely. Not a good option out here.

Nevada, I did a search and even checked JC Whitney but couldn't find anything. You might have to get a bodyshop to fab something that bolts on to the lift gate. I'll bet they could make something that looks good they could match the paint and make it look like a factory installation.

Kind of my thoughts too. I did find some after market deflectors for the '05 Expy. that looked really nice, but nothing more recent. Odd to not have these in more demand, but oh well. I will keep researching.

You might do better to carry a can of compressed air like you use for computers and blow it off when it gets bad.

3D carbon made one for the FMF Expedition. Not sure if they sell it separate or need the buy one of the kit options

A friend of mine had a front mount Yakima air deflector on his Subaru Forester that mounted to the front cross bar, helped reduce the drag from the rack up there. He attached it to the rear cross bar for the exact same reason. Don't see why it wouldn't work for your application.
