Rusted roof

Got to the beach and found my cup holders full of water. Windows were up and doors locked, so I took a look at roof...



This is a beach truck and lives right on back bay so when it's not on the beach it's still in the salt air 24/7. I'm only looking to get another year out of and was thinking I'd just get some of that rubberized metal roof tar and jus slap that up there and call it done. Any thoughts?

Flex seal. Get a can and spray the roof and see if that works.

Your cupholders were full of water? How long had it been sitting out in the salty and humid air? You might have mold on the interior depending on how long that water was in there and if water went elsewhere.

It was rainwater that leaked in from the roof. Had only been sitting a couple days and it rained hard a couple nights before i found water. This is first time I've ever seen water so hopefully I caught it before it got to a point of mold but yes, center console cup holders were full

Truck has been kept at beach full time since 2012. no room for the beast in garage so she is forced to endure the elements full time

Thanks. Thought about that but I think it's too far gone for anything thin enough to be shot from a spray can. I'm thinking a gallon of the thick rubbery tar that they use around flashings and such on metal roofs is a one and done fix. It will look like hell, but it's on the roof of a pretty tall vehicle so won't really be seen anyway.

I just got a 2003 that will replace this '98 eventually. I'm thinking about bed liner on the roof of that truck as a preventive measure

You can spray rhino liner all over the new one. That's a good idea. I've actually seen it done on a jeep and it looked nice.

Yeah, my other 3 vehicles are Jeeps, so I've seen it done inside, outside and underneath. Have always wanted to try it, so the '03 roof ,ight be the place to start

Thanks. I was in Lowes today and was looking at it. I have a buddy that says he has a gallon of roof tar I can have, so if the free hook-up falls through, I'll give flex-seal a try

yeah try any of the sealants the rubberized RV roof sealant works good and you could work it into the holes better to do what you need.
