I cheated!

It's basically it. I found someone locally that was selling the first gen version of Tomken's tire carrier already attached to a 2x4 bumper fitted to an XJ.

A grinder, a buddy with a plasma cutter and welder, and some cutting from the body and bumper later and that's the result.

Only downside so far: the bracket that holds the tire is bent. I don't know if the previous owner got rear ended or bounced it off something, but the tire sits crooked right now. I'm going back to my buddys shop on Thursday to straighten it out.

Next step is to see if it's more cost effective to make this vs. buying it:

It's addictive, be careful.

Really like that generation. Deeply thinking about getting a navigator and doing a level with body lift and giving it to my wife.

Trust me, I know. I have a very built powerstroke in the driveway that I just can't stop buying parts for.

I have a very frugally modified OBS IDI sitting in the field at my in-laws, I think this winter it's getting pulled into the barn and loved.

Took a lot to pull the plug on the Cummins Expedition idea. Going to go with a built 4.6 block. Might take me a year to build it, but it should be fun.

You mean Terminator swap right?

I admit that was a brand new term for me. But no.

I did the pro/con list on a blower vs turbo, and I couldn't get over the guarantee of running premium, and terrible fuel economy for a DD. A mildly tuned turbo I might be able to keep the lower octane, or at least stick with middle, and get the forced induction that I want more than the crazy numbers. Keep the boost mild, mild cam, upgraded internals, and don't go crazy with the fuel and it should be capable of keeping up with modern Trucks without breaking the bank.

That an getting a 4.6 pcm to work in an 5.4L expy is a lot easier than merging a diesel harness with the factory one.

Inspiration is taken from the following article.

http://www.drivingline.com/articles/ford-f-250-54l-turbo-upgrade/

Way more 2v 4.6 support, and well I have one with blown head gaskets that's under 190k in my yard... So...
