The sparkplugs can be replaced, even by a home mechanic like myself. It's been awhile and I only did it once, but I didn't need to remove anything, just loosen the fuel rails and rotate the injectors.

Couple recommendations:
1) Buy the best plugs you can because you won't want to do this job again.
2) Buy a 6" OAL swiveling magnetic spark plug socket

How long did it take to change the plugs. How much additional time to replace the coils? Thanks

The coils. Yes, I meant to hit on this. If you're changing spark plugs, you might as well change the coil over plugs while you're there. You'll have to pull those to get the plugs out and after 100k or so, I'd suggest changing them. I used Motorcraft and suggest using them. Some cheaper aftermarket coils have a short life and you don't want to repeat this job anytime soon.

It's really no more time to replace the coils because you have to remove them to change out the plugs anyway. I did my job over about three days just because of limited time each day. Day 1 was cylinders 1,2,5,6 (by far the easiest). Day 2 cylinders 7 and 8 and day 3 cylinders 3 and 4. It can all be done in one day if you have the time.

Yeah I've been thinking it over...

Need clearance for the rear ones, it seems like it boils down to the angle you have,
you can probably cut away some of the body

also need to pre soak those rears with PB for at least 24hrs prior to removal, which takes a while

If you actually end up cutting away some of the body, make a video I'm sure the members would like to see that.
