Anybody getting paint bubbling and rusting around the welds on their trunk door and other doors? It happening on both our Ford Expedition and Escape. Showed Dealer two years ago and the said it was normal wear and tear. We live in Colorado so we are not in a road salt state.

Have you got Ford to take any responsibility? Seems like a chronic failure....

Thanks in advance!

I hope others answer to your question is yes Ford backs their vehicles and wants happy satisfied customers.

They really should. I just checked my 17 warranty. 5years unlimited mileage (perforation only). That's not very good.

When I was looking to replace my 2002 Tacoma I couldn't believe how many used expeditions and Navigators had rust and bubbling paint on the rear hatch door around the wiper. I walked away from every one of them.

Check the web to see if there is a class action law suit. If not create one.

Toyota got hammered for rusting frames on their tacomas and 4runners in the late 90s. They ended up offering to replace the frame or pay the owner for the vehicle towards a new one and even added an extended frame rust warranty for 10 years (I think).

Yes - on the hatch of my 2015 Expediton Limited 4x4, purchased new and never wrecked or damaged. The bubbling began before the basic new-car warranty expired.

I’ve learned that it is a very, very common problem on the hoods and hatch panels of multiple-year Expedition models. It has irritated me so much I will never buy another Ford that has aluminum panels. Ford has been aware of the problem for YEARS and chose to ignore the problem - at the expense of the owners.

It's not just the 90s trucks. Toyota is still being clobbered by that issue. They're replacing frames on the 2nd gen (2005+) Tacomas as well due to rust.

They also had an issue with the engine mounts collapsing into the frame on the 2005 and early 2006 Tacomas. Dana Corporation quietly added a reinforcement plate to the frames in mid-2006 but Toyota never did anything specific to this problem to help out owners with the older frames.

I gusseted the engine mounts on my 2006 to preemptively address that issue but have done too many other modifications to the truck for Toyota to warranty the frame for rust.

As for my 2010 Expedition, I'll be getting the hatch and hood painted some time this summer. The bubbling has turned to peeling in the back.

Tons of bubbling and paint peeling on the hatch of our expedition. Bought it knowing it was a problem anyway for all of the other positives.

It's odd that some have problems while others don't, regardless of where they live. Here in New York, with bad whether and lots of road salt, the problem's not bad. It exists, but the majority of 2007's don't show damage. Probably a problem with prep or storage of the parts at manufacturing.

Nope, problem with the stamping equipment contaminating aluminum panels. Search the other extensive thread on this and you’ll find a wealth of info. People have succeeded in suing ford and getting some $$ in small claims for this. Not going to repeat all of the facts over again, check out the main thread on this...very eye opening.
