Yeah, those were my thoughts as well. I think at some point the alternator wouldn't charge enough, but I have no idea what that point would be. I just got to thinking about it when I realized that the idle speed in drive is lower than the idle speed it park/neutral.
25 views and no reply? I guess everyone is interested but doesn't have an answer. Unless someone has some experience lowering the idle speed, I will just leave it alone since the fuel savings would be minimal.
I recently bought an SCT Livewire programmer and got a custom economy and a custom performance tune made for it. The Livewire allows me to change the idle speed in drive and in neutral. In neutral, my stock idle speed is about 625rpm. In drive, the idle speed is about 550rpm.
Would there...
Haha, I guess you must have lived in Louisiana to know the local slang. I actually moved from "elek" to Hico because I went to seminary in Ft Worth and now I am pastor at a church near Hico. But yeah, when I have work to be done on a vehicle that I cannot do, I try to wait until I visit family...
Yeah, he has over 20 years of experience as a mechanic. I will give him a shameless plug since he has helped me out so many times in the past and does excellent work. He and his brother run 1st Choice Automotive in Alexandria, LA. They do lots of performance mods as well, including complete...
I changed the plugs in my 07 without any breaking, but my Expy only had 55k miles at the time. I think that was the most important reason that I didn't have any breaks. I did the job at a friend's shop who has extensive experience changing these problem spark plugs. I ran a full tank of gas...
I am going by Goodyear's measurements. The calculator that you linked is an excellent resource, but it does not give the tread width. That calculator gives the "section width." Section width is the distance from the widest point of the outer sidewall to the widest point of the inner sidewall...
I just purchased an SCT Livewire programmer for my 07, and it didn't come with any pre-loaded tunes on it. I had to get my shop to make 2 custom tunes: one for fuel economy (normal driving) and one for performance (towing). The performance increase is noticeable, but it isn't a huge difference...
My 3rd generation Expedition fits 33.2" tall tires with 9" of tread width (I have 18" wheels, but the overall size of the tire gives you a comparison to go by). I don't have any rubbing issues with my tires (if you want a detailed explanation, look at my thread on 275/70/18 Duratracs). This is...
I stuffed some 33.2" (275/70/18) Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on my completely stock 07 Expedition a few weeks ago. With about 1,500 miles on the tires, I thought I would give an update on how everything is working:
I have only managed to get the tires to rub very slightly one time, and this...
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that flushing the transmission wasn't sufficient to get all the old stuff out. I will try to get a good service manual and see what all I need to do the job. If anyone has changed the drivetrain fluids on a 3rd gen, please share your experience so that we...
Just spoke to the service dept at a local Ford dealer. They said the fluid change intervals are:
transmission - 30k
rear diff - 60k
front diff and transfer case - 90k
The price to change all these fluids is $509!!! The price to change just the rear diff and trans fluid is $315. That is...
I bought a Ford Certified 07 Expedition 4x4 at 54,000 miles from a local dealer. I do not see any drivetrain fluid changes in the service record, so I assume that the scheduled maintenance on changing the drivetrain fluids is 60,000 miles or more. I am having trouble making sense of the Ford...
