Every front driveshaft I have removed from an expedition has had the same 4 bolts front and rear of shaft , 12 mm 12 point socket . Does not slide out of the transfer case.
I had 2 99 expeditions 1 with front and rear air 1 with only front, they both had the same great fuel mileage but the duel system would heat and cool lots faster.
2years ago I bought my 99 EB for $200 because the front trans seal was leaking and fluid was smoked . I found trans cooler plugged up decided to try a new seal and flush the system. Transmission has worked fine since. I work at a repair shop so if it didn't work wouldn't have been no big deal...
You could hook up a scanner and watch b1s1 and b2s1 sensors and compare as you force engine lean by removing vacuum hose then force engine rich by injecting propane.
Passenger side of engine could have a bad coil , bad spark plug, leaking fuel injector, bad upstream o2 sensor or maybe exhaust leak , when you do get this fixed you can count on the po420 coming back.
