I can't seem to find any info online specifically for a 1997 Expedition (5.4l) or F150 for that matter. Will it work on my Expy? Anyone here have one on their 97 Expy? I would really like to hook one up and see what it can do!
Alaska is correct. I just had to replace my 97 Expy's cluster. A 99 cluster will not work with a 97 Expedition. Try Ebay, you can find a functional 97 cluster for aprox 100 bucks. (Probably cheaper) I also tried repairing the solder joints as i didn't want to drop any cash. It didn't work for me...
I had the exact problem that you are describing recently. It turned out to be the alternator bearing. It idle you heard a whine, when you accelerated it mostly went away.
Thanks for the replies everyone! I spent the better part of the day on it but I managed to remover the cluster, reheated the solder on all the joints then plugged it back in. After that it started working again like it was brand new! I did break he headlight switch trying to put it back...
