You can buy parts to repair them if they need it. I found a set off a short wheel base limited and put on my Eddie EL. The wiring I have no idea factory wise. You could probably find or build a control for them pretty easy.
My trip went off without one hiccup. We drove to baja Mexico this year for the Baja1000 to meet with some friends and semi chase a class 11 car.
I made a good overall check of the Expedition checked all the fluids and gave it a oil change and sent it. We logged 5500 miles and were on the road...
That's one way to do it just very impractical for what I want to do. I'm trying to keep the mpg's as high as possible we have a very long trip coming up.
There isn't much in front of these things anyways. The damage you incurred is probably similar but just higher never the less it still sucks either way.
FWIW. Standard length boards will fit a EL. I am on the 2nd year with ours after I rebuilt them. I bought the set noon operational for$20. The PO tore the originals off all that was left was the part of all the mounts..
I'm so glad you posted this. I'm in the process of preparing for a baja trip next month and I'm working the angles on how to sleep in the back while on the road for that 2 weeks. Your idea is a simpler solution to my thoughts. I've got the costway version of you refrigerator. I'm looking at...
Back bumper is done. Not doing the swing away tire carrier. It just was too much work with having to figure out how to move the camera. I think I may paint all the trim the same color as the bumper. I like how it looks now.
Waiting on the truck bed liner to dry before painting them. Gonna use a camo tan matte paint on it. It's close to the trim color. I'll probably just make all the trim match the bumpers if it looks to weird.
Yeah the swingaway carrier and the auto gate don't play well together. I'm thinking about putting a set of receivers on the frame mounts and making the whole swingaway removeable. Trying to power it could be done I suppose, but it would be pretty involved. I'll be in Socal next month for the...
The back bumper is coming along now. Should be done this weekend with it. I used the front tow points on the new bumper for a good recovery point. I knocked the mount off of them and welded them right to the bumper.
Well on to the next job, building a rear bumper with a swing away tire carrier. I bought a set of wheels and a 2.5" rough country lift. The wheels don't fit I bought 17x9's they don't clear the caliper I figured I'd be fine after seeing the 17 inch wheels on the raptor.
