    Loss of power, no code.

Sorry for the late update. I got it done yesterday and she's all washed inside and out now. It's good to have my "truck" back. I had to do it twice... I started it up last Thursday and it wouldn't idle and ran rough. Definitely got the timing wrong. I know why too. I never took the rockers out...

Sorry I got snippy. I appreciate your feedback. The dialogue is good for this amature Ford tech lol.

Not much noise on startup that I noticed. We 18 miles per gallon on an 18 hour drive. We heard some house while running while on vacation. Then on the way home it was down on power the whole trip. 12 mpg the while way home. We thought it was bad gas but it didn't change when we fueled up again...

It took the day off work to finish putting the engine back together. Got it all buttoned up, put some fresh oil in it, primed it and it started right up. It ran really rough with no valve train noise. It would rev but it wouldn't idle very well. It didn't die but almost. Check engine light...

Actually, the DOHC engine is 2 cams per head... Mine is a SOHC. Hence my comment. I have a repair manual that has all the information you mentioned.

Yep... I spun it over a few times by hand just to make sure it was smooth. I'm just glad it's not a DOHC engine. It's actually not too bad to work on. I can lay on the top or I can sit up on the ground in front of the engine. Right now I'm reasarching the best way to get the roller followers...

I started reassembly. Progress has been slow. It's so hot in FL I don't want to work in the driveway Got the new cam and oil pump in. Then I timed the engine, and put the new tensioners on. All that's left is to install the rockers and put the covers on.

Yep... think low oil pressure, not no oil pressure. Apparently a common problem on these trucks. I found all metal Melling tensioners that have no seals to fail. That coupled with the high volume oil pump will hopefully be a permanent fix.

No... Timing chain tensioner seals (I should've said seals). When the seals break, the oil drains back to the pan causing lower oil pressure. That's why the cam failure.

Here's the culprits. Both gaskets blown out.

Thanks. I appreciate that. I'll update my progress here as it happens. Never know what happened to this engine before I got it. I've only had it 6 months. I'm not going to do the chains and phasers now just due to the cost. The Ford kit is over $800. They seem to be fine. Really, there is very...

    Loss of power, no code.

I finally had time to start disassembly. Found a bad roller follower and the cam shaft lobe is bad. To replace the cam I have to remove the cam chain so I might as well install the upgraded oil pump too. Looks like about $350 on Rockauto and probably 2-3 weeks (nights and weekends) worth of...

Yeah... As long as the cam isn't damaged. Hoping it's just an adjuster or follower. He mentions installing a high volume oil pump and replaceing the tentioners too. Has anyone here done that? Overkill?

Thanks... I think you're right on. I found the Makuloco videos on YouTube. He has videos on the roller follower and adjuster faliures. He also mentions the tentioner gasket failures that cause reduced oil pressure to the right bank. I think I can do this job myself. It will take me some time...

    Loss of power, no code.

I just got home from a 3k Mile road trip. Averaged 18 mpg there and 13 mpg home... fully loaded both ways. The engine had much less power on the way home. It had to drop 2 gears to go up a hill or pass someone. It still ran pretty smooth, it would still rev but with much less power. I could hear...
