i got a 1 year 12k warranty on mine plus i could do it twice for the price he is getting. if your mechanic is reputable, he is buying reputable transmissions and will back it.
i do tow a 33ft Jayco Whitehawk that weighs about 8900lbs. i have a tow tune that is great as well as the performance tune when i am not towing. i had the tune prior to turbo swap and 5 Star just updates the tunes for free if you buy the turbos from them. i also did the SPD thermostat.
Powermax have been great upgrades with the tune. Added mishi radiator for towing and replaced the warped manifold with the 5 star performance ones . Also did the gt spark plugs.
one other thing, on my 17, the manifolds warped and sheared the rear studs off. that could be the combustion gasses. piss poor design if you look at it. 3 studs for the front two ports and 2 on the elongated rear portion that goes to the turbos.
Make sure your coolant is 50/50 and not heavier on the antifreeze. Look at a mishimoto radiator. Holds about twice the coolant the oem does. What temp thermostat you have?
Anyone in here running Mishi IC and Aluminum radiator? I upgraded to the garrett powermax turbos and they are producing more heat of course. Live in FL so need to keep it cool. Coolant spiked to 245 and IAT to 120 yesterday with it 91 degrees outside. i did figure out we used pure antifreeze...
About 2.5hrs each side down to the manifold but got lucky with studs having plenty left to get vise grips on. Studs actually came out without issues. YouTube has some good videos with tips and exact tools to help.
