Advice and shop needed near Greensboro NC

Update! I had a used 90k mile engine installed and then drove to Atlantic Beach for a long weekend. It runs terrific, just like it did before it sat for months and months. My kids are going to use it when I'm traveling. I took one of my kids driving the other day and she prefers it to our...

Advice and shop needed near Greensboro NC

Thanks for the replies. I still don't know what I'm going to do. EIther a salvage engine 59k miles for 2400 or have someone go through this engine and replace whats needed. Theres still alot of life left in this vehicle and its cheap to register and insure.

Advice and shop needed near Greensboro NC

Well I waited too long to replace a roller rocker and it bit me in the ass. It started as a light ticking and never got any worse. Then about a month later it all of a sudden let go and the engine stopped and when I cranked it over it sounded like one cylinder was lacking compression. When I...

Oil analysis as a predictor for cam phaser/timing chain/cam/follower issues?

I've been around engines for 40 plus years as well as aircraft piston and jet engines. I'm a fan of the oil analysis, its whats used on jet engines to keep an eye on certain types of bearing materials, if they spike then there is an impending failure that needs to be looked into and based on...

What did you do to the expy today

I replaced the serpentine belt and all three idler pulleys, the grooved one was really loose and had a lot of play, so might as well do all 3 and be done with it. 224k

    2008 V-8 vs. 2016 V-6 on the Road

My .02 I travel for work 80% of the time and I rent an Expedition and F150 all the time because of the size and comfort. I like the EB, it's a great motor and I love turbos. I've have many European cars with them. I also like the 5.4 in my personal vehicle. Occasionally I get lucky when I...

What did you do to the expy today

Cleaned out the truck after 2 weeks of vacation in Florida, was loaded to the gills with equipment, cleaned the engine and installed a new Ford vanity plate on the front. I also put som ducked tape on the outer drivers bottom seat panel. It just almost wore through from the corner of the...

    Full synthetic price

I pay about 70 for full synthetic oil change and tire rotation, battery test at the local Ford dealer since new. Truck has had full synthetic since first oil change and I change it between 5k and 6k. Truck has 217k now.

What's up with this sync thing on my '14?

Are you confusing updating the Sync ii software with the navigation maps. I recently updated my Sync software from the Ford website. You have to download it onto a USB thumb drive and update it that way. I think the error message you are getting is for the Sync software. Call a Ford dealer...

Any tips on changing spark plugs?

Keep in mind if you torgue them wet (anti-sieze) to the same 24 to 27 ft lbs, you are actually torquing them more, since there is less friction.
