But if you're not trying to spend $400+, just go on eBay and do a search for JL1T-18C612 or LL1T-18C612
More than likely your assumption is correct, The Door Ajar Switch (inside the Door Latch mechanism) is gunk'd up with dirt, not allowing the proper function of the spring. Could just need to be cleaned up or has simply failed and needs replacing.

if you find a suitable surface mount LED that you like. Drill yourself a hole to size, Mount it where you indicated and route your pair of wires behind the door panel and splice into the Blindspot wires in the main mirror connector.
