Hi guys, I have an 2001 Expy with the 5.4 and a mechanic friend of mine suggested replacing my muffler with a Glasspack for better mpg. The thought of it does sound good but I'm wondering if I would lose any performance with a straight through muffler ? I'm not worried about the sound as I'm sure the extra grown would sound fine since it still has all the cats and resonator. I'm thinking of doing the gotts mod to go with it. Does anyone have thoughts on this ?

YouTube it. There was one guy who used a 26" glass pack and it was ok. Ok because you could hear the exhaust hiss. Kinda like the new power stroke.
I'm looking at the turbo mufflers.

I'm sure others will chime in.

I did see some of the stuff on Youtube, but they seem to talk more about the sound, I would like to find out if it affected the power of the truck, whether there was any gain or loss.

If you find out anything elsewhere please share in this thread.

I need to do my exhaust from the cylinder heads back. Not sure what headers are available, just know I want stainless stem to stern and if I can get a few more mpgs and torks with minimal increase in volume I'll be happy.

Straight through design will give the best results. Kinda the down side is the exhaust can be popy.

Getting the air out of the engine the quickest way is best.

The chambered mufflers in my opinion give the best sound. Deep rumble.

That is why I'm looking at the turbo mufflers. There a straight through chambered muffler. Lol. I'm taking my time with my decision on the exhaust.

I'm also interested in any one else's exhaust too.

A glasspack..ewwww no no no....this isn't 1962 there's so so much better sounding, flowing and quality out there! A glasspack won't do CRAP for mpgs! I run a MAC Flowpath....anyone who's ever had a foxbody stang should know who they are. But if you want it to last get a universal stainless MagnaFlow, Flowmaster 70 series..or any other series they have except for the full race ones. Any quality muffler will do really.
Headers...JBA, Gibson....there's others...again stick with quality and get quality hardware too. Also be prepared for stock manifold studs breaking!

Sent while like doing stuff and what not.
