It is the 5A fuse #18 in the fuse box that is under the dash. It is for the illuminated dash. It only controls the back light on the dashboard though. All other lights and signals work. Turn signals will still work, check engine light comes on if there is an error, 4x4 light works, washer fluid light is on. It only kills the back light for some reason.

Was fuse #18 in the fuse panel under the dash?

As I mentioned before Get rid of the Chilton and get the Ford Manual

Yes, it is under the dash.

I don't have a windows computer, so your offer of buying the DVD is nice but I can't use it.

When the main light switch is in the off state, fuse 18 is receiving 9.3V of power. I know from looking at the wiring diagram in my Chilton manual that the 4x4 switch and the dash light are on the same line. It doesn't seem to blow any other fuses though. The power door locks and window switches all work. The moon room switches work. The only fuse it affects is the dimmer switch for the dash.

The bad thing about either a Chilton or Haynes manual are they are Generic Manuals The prints in them cover many years and are not specific to your year.

attached are the prints for your year Note On your print it shows fuse #7 in the Battery junction box as feeding fuse #18

The factory print shows fuse #6 feeding Fuse #18

What I would like for you to do is to put your volt meter on fuse #18 and then turn on the parking lights and you should see 12 volts Then pull fuse #7 and see if the voltage drops to 0 If not then pull fuse #6 and see if the voltage drops. If the voltage drops when you pull #6 but didn't drop when you pulled # 7 Burn the manual lol

You are right, I should burn the manual. It is fuse number 6 that turned off the headlights. However, fuse #18 inside the truck was still getting power and was surging all the way to 23V when fuse #6 from the hood was pulled.

Well that would indicate that you have a short somewhere And that makes for some hair pulling to find it.

The Haynes and Chilton manuals do have some very good information in them Although I do have a Haynes and I normally have to clear about a inch of dust off it anytime I refer to it. And to be honest I have also found errors in the Factory manuals (Very Few)

Well here is an interesting find. I pulled every fuse in the junction box while having the multi meter hooked up to fuse #18. Nothing made the 9V of power go away. However a couple made it become a negative nine volts and one or two made it become like 15V. However the most interesting thing was when I went to put the car into neutral and hit the brake pedal. 100V. It holds at 100V after peaking at about 106.6 or so. I have no idea what that means.
