Hi all...So my driver side PRB is intermittent, works very slowly or reverses direction. Brought it in to the dealer and they initially told me that the entire assembly needs to be replaced, and painted to match. I then spoke to a different service adviser, and he said that they should be able to replace just the motor and bracket.

Anyone here have experience with this issue? And how it was resolved? The vehicle is still within warranty.

Generally, the dealerships will just oil them repeatedly in the hopes it works long enough for your warranty to run out. The reality is that the entire assembly needs to be replaced. It only comes in black and does not need to be painted. The assembly is not part of the physical running board. You can just replace the motor, but Ford doesn't sell it separately so you would only be able to pick it up used at a junkyard. The motors alone are very rare for this reason as well; they are only separated from the assembly if the assembly becomes damaged and thereby unsaleable.

The assembly is about $2K, which is why dealerships will hem and haw over replacing it under warranty.

Great...Now I'm going to get BS'd about this too....Why Ford doesn't offer the motor separately is insane. Thanks for the heads up.

Did you try spraying all of the moving points with WD40? I'm assuming you did already but just wanted to point that out since mine exhibit the same characteristics about every 3 months until I give them some TLC. I shut them off completely in the winter as they continually have issues with snow and gunk. I even installed a set of mudflaps on the front but that only helped marginally.

I brought it to the dealer under warranty, and they said that they took it all apart and lubed it up. Seems better for now, still a little sluggish compared to the other side.

"ManUpOrShutUp" was right on the money...First they said "We need to replace the entire assembly" When I brought it in they changed their tune.

If they have their way they will keep lubing it up until your warranty runs out. Keep an eye on it and bring it back again at the first sign of trouble. Once they start operating as you described it's just a matter of time before they fail entirely.
