The brake controller is a straight plug-in to the harness connector under the dash by the steering column. 10 minutes and whatever screws are needed to mount the controller unit.
Ford provided the 4 pin trailer connector standard, and if you got the towing package, then the 7 pin adapter was installed by plugging into the 4 pin connector, then connecting the two unconnected wires bundled in the rear by the connector. The 4 pin connector provides the light control, and the other wire provides the brake control from the unit you're installing under the dash. There is also a need to feed a 12 volt supply through the connector that charges your camper batteries while you're traveling, and possibly back-up lights on the trailer if you have them. You may have to add fuses and a relay to the electric distribution panel. The owner's manual shows you which is the towing relay and fuses. They're not expensive if missing.
I just went through this with a 2005 Expedition I just set up. In my case, the stock 4 pin connector was corroded, so the 7 pin connect wouldn't work properly. I just installed a new combination 4/7 pin socket which corrected the problems. I added the relay and fuses, so the only thing left is the 12 volt feed to the trailer when I get time.
The towing package also provides a radiator that has more capacity for transmission oil cooling, and a lower differential gear ratio. Running the VIN number as previously suggested, or getting a build sheet will get you additional information. Good luck!
