Hi everyone! I've found many solutions to previous issues with my 03 Expy on this forum. I finally took the step to join! Thanks for all the previous help but I have a new issue. I have a 6 CD changer with a ceiling DVD player. Occasionally the CD ERROR message would appear and I tried all the fixes I've read about in this forum. I've disconnected the battery for several minutes but it only worked for a very brief time. Then I removed and replaced the fuses. Again, the cd player only worked for a brief time. Then the CDs got stuck. I disconnected the battery and removed the player from the dash and gently removed the CD's with needle nose pliers. I replaced the unit in the dash, reconnected all the wires and now the error message reads SLOTS FULL. I know this is not the case because I removed all the CD's. My neighbor recommends spraying canned air into it to free any dust particles that may be affecting the mechanism. Am I missing something I haven't tried yet or am I trying to resurrect CD player that's past it's prime?

Might be time to get a new one(if they still make them). CD changers get buggy the older they get and may not be worth paying to get it fixed or messing with it.

sounds like the unit is failing... I have had 3 - 6 CD arm (center) console units and never had an issue. I would think that removing the fuse is a better overall "reboot' for the unit vs the battery... dont want EVERYTHING reset, right?

in other electronics, when I have issues like this, i have always found that it's not worth going after, i.e. failed circuits, resisters, etc that in the end aren't worth the effort.... home theater systems... finally left them by the trash bins for the next poor b@st@rd.

if you are dead set on wanting CDs, perhaps a junk yard to get another one and see how it goes.... I would not pay more than 20 bucks as cd tech is now ancient. What is the R&R time for this unit? is it really worth it ?

If not, enjoy the local morning drive DJs, classic oldies (90s now right?), Delilah (with ur chick or secretly on your own :), etc.

oh yea, its summer and its hot... weak electronics fail about this time.

Just my opinion

You could disassemble the unit and spray the micro switches with contact cleaner as a last resort before replacing the unit.

There are some very good videos on youtube for repairing the 6disc expedition CD changer
As stamp suggests clean the micro switches The Videos explain and show how to do this

Thanks for all your replies! My wife drives it mainly and she's not very open to change. I'll get some contact cleaner and watch Youtube. If push comes to shove I'll recommend we install a Nav. system. That may soften the blow of change! I'll let you all know how it goes!

Well, I removed the Cd player from the dash and opened it up. I blew some canned computer air in it to remove any dust and debris that may have been the cause of the problem. Then I sprayed contact cleaner in all the plugs. when I put everything back together, the problem persisted. The CD changer thinks all six if the slots are full yet when I push the eject button it gives me a CD ERROR message. I see that Crutchfields is recommended by many of the readers on this forum. I think we're going to go to an MP3/ NAV system. Any suggestions? Is this a plug and play situation and something I can do myself? I can match wire to wire and plug things in. Short of that, I'm not an electronics guru.

You shouldn't have a problem since you took it out, opened it up and put it back together. Just get the adapters to plug it in and it should be plug and play.
