Hi folks,

I have a 2008 Ford Expedition XLT with the default/stock factory CD/radio unit, i.e. this:

I'm looking for a replacement unit that will provide navigation and CD/Aux/possibly DVD support, as well as Satellite/Sirius radio.

My budget is pretty flexible (I'd like to keep it under 400-500) but my tech level isn't so high in this area, so I either need something easy to install or relatively quick/cheap to get installed by a local dealer without many problems.

I've looked at something like the Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS unit (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017LKVEBA/ref=psdc_3009001_t1_B017LKV8W0) which seems like it does what I need (albeit using an app like Waze for Nav) but I'm not sure it would fit my vehicle or what additional cables/'bits' I'd need.

So, I'm curious if anyone here has a recommendation on a compatible piece of hardware and details on what else I need to make this work in a hurry. I have to make a road trip from FLA to NH in 2 weeks so I want something pretty promptly. Any info/advice appreciated.

Do you have steering wheel audio controls? If so, you'll need an adapter to keep those working with a new head unit. I would also look at the Kenwoods as they use Garmin maps, so it's very easy to update the map data

Your going to need a bunch of parts. I will list the ones I have used before, but there are a few other companies that makes similar ones. These are all from Metra.

XSVI-5521-Nav (main wiring harness)
ASWC1 (steeringwheel remote interface)
95-5812 (dash kit)

as for the deck, go to a shop and try some out. Bring your phone and use the features you will be wanting to us in your own vehicle. Demo as much of it as possible. Whats right for me very well couldnt be for you.

go to crutchfield.com and "outfit your car"...put in the specs and it will show every head unit on the market that will fit the truck...select your options then chose according to your price range...they give you all install sheets to do it yourself AND you get lifetime support to help you with it...AND...u can buy the steering wheel control all from one place

Thanks for the info guys - much appreciated. I got hold of a Pioneer DIN after checking some combos in a local store. Got all the pieces and having it installed tomorrow. Fingers crossed, no glitches.

I realize this is after the fact, but I want to put a word in for the Kenwood DNX893S. It's one of Kenwood's top of the line Excelon products. I had one installed in my other vehicle yesterday and love it. Backup camera, plus a front camera if one is so inclined, HD radio, Garmin navigation, Android Auto or Apple Car Play, DVD/CD plus the normal USB, Bluetooth, and SD slots. Android Auto is pretty cool, all controlled from the head unit. And it's Linux based
