What would cause the 4wd to bind or feel like e-brake is on when turning from a stop light? 2004 Navigator drives fine otherwise and doesn't do it in 2wd.

Because you aren't supposed to turn on dry pavement in 4wd unless you are in 4auto. Use 2wd for the street

That is normal, you shouldn't ever use 4wd on dry pavement because our center differentials (transfer case) are locked.

Like other said before, don't use 4wd on pavement, you shouldn't use it for long trips either. Be careful, you are going to mess up your truck.

In standard 4WD both front wheels are turning at the same RPM. The inside wheel has less of a distance to travel then the outside wheel causing the inside tire to grab pavement. In a surface such as sand the inside tire would slip and not be as noticeable. 4WD Auto distributes power where needed, so the wheels can move at different speeds as needed. Never use standard 4WD high or Low on dry pavement or a hard rough surface, unless you are needing extra traction to pull or push something in a straight line.
