Last week I was pulling a travel trailer through a mountain pass in Colorado. About half way the truck started struggling and I had to pull over. After a couple minutes the truck seemed to recover. Turns out the valve cover gasket on the drivers side blew and had started leaking oil (this has been repaired). My issue is now there is a loud ticking coming from the passenger side valve cover (I think), no leaks. The ticking is only under acceleration or going uphill. I have changed the oil and added some seafoam, so far no improvement.

Is it possible a lifter was damaged? Or could the exhaust have been damaged?

Thanks

You can listen with a mechanics stethoscope to locate the general area first, then pull the valve cover and inspect for damage if it is coming from the valvetrain. Also take a look at the exhaust manifold for leaks.

You may have an engine knock problem. Try removing all spark plugs and examine the tips with a magnifying glass. If you see pepper like deposits, then try checking the engine knock sensor.
