I have a 99 Expedition AWD with the 4.6L. When I bought the vehicle the front drive shaft was missing. I went to a junk yard and pulled a drive shaft off a vehicle that is compatible. It is 2 1/2" to long. So when I get under my vehicle and measure it measures 37 inches. That is from the flat surface on the front end chunk to the flat surface on the transfer case. So my front drive shaft. u-joints and the flanges that the bolts go through can only be 37 inches.

So my question is.... How can I find one that fits? Everyone on eBay,Pull A Part and everywhere else I looked are to long. Am I missing something? Very confused.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

You more than likely pulled it from a vehicle that ISNT AWD. There is 2 different drive setups for these Expeditions.

So, I have a follow-up stupid question. Feels stupid anyway. If the vehicle has a front drive shaft it has to be either AWD or 4x4. Its that correct. If so, wouldn't it fit?

Now that I think about that, that's a good point but I honestly don't know.

are you sure the driveshaft you pulled isn't just extended some? And then possibly bound up?

If it is too long and the flanges will bolt to either end (independently) then a driveshaft shop can quickly/cheaply shorten the tube and re-balance it for you.

Thats what I was thinking to have done. Its just so confusing that mine is that much shorter. I went back out to the place today and measured every vehicle out there. They all measure 41ish inches. Mine 37. Just kinda lost.

Look inside the parts truck first. Look for the selector switch. If it says A4WD, 4HI, 4LO chances are it's compatible.
