I have searched the Forum and found a couple threads on this subject but nothing as to how to go about finding out what is causing the Alert message "Check Backup Aid" or what might be wrong and need troubleshooting. After 14 years, I guess something has died or a connection has wiggled lose.

It looks like there are 2 sensors on the rear bumper. How can these be tested? Anything else back there that needs checked?

need some more information as you might only see 2 sensors but you may have a 3rd sensor which is above the plate and not visible it the radar sensor

the early production models had 3 sensors But you may only see 2

The late production models had 4 sensors

Check you sticker on the door jamb for the date of manf.

One other thing for you to know If you ever have fuse box problems Ford also used different fuse boxes in the 03 expedition So if you ever need to replace the fuse box it must have the same exact part number. Just don't think that any 03 fuse box will work.

Have you looked at the rear end on a 2003 Expedition EB recently? First you said above the plate, the only thing above the plate (which is located dead center of the lift gate just below the rear lift window) are the two license plate light bubs, the release button for the rear window, then the actual rear window IE no room for anything. Below the plate is the release handle for the lift gate and just the remainder of the aluminum lift gate.

Then comes the bumper/bumper cover which shows 2 sensors and below that centered is the EB optional max tow package with 2 inch receiver and all the trailer lighting and control plugs (there is a massive amount of solid metal in this area as well as all the wiring for trailer lighting and controls).

Once I find any of this stuff, is there a defined test procedure or is the shotgun replacement method used?

No I haven't looked at the rear end of an 03 EB but I just replaced the rear bumper and the front bumper on my 04 EB and with the exception of the 3 sensor park aid that is on yours and the 4 sensor park aid on the 04 the bumpers are the same Again sorry about saying behind the plate

To troubleshoot the park aid requires a diagnostic tool.

Anybody know how much this diagnostic tool costs?

I am not taking the truck to the dealer, if I can't repair it, I'll live without it. After all, I was driving long before they thought about adding all this crap to a truck that breaks all the time.

Where did the true work truck ever go? Four decent sized tires, a proper bed, 327 CID without EPA crap, no seat belts, no radio, a bench seat, and 3 on the tree, you know, a work truck.
