Hi there,
I 1999 expedition EB, 5.4, 147000 km
I think about awd binding noise during sharp turns.
I cannot see the light of 4x4 at that time.

If I want to change the mode, I can see the light.
It is a good working condition.

But binding problem during sharp turns.

For the solution, I changed the half axles both sides and two wheel bearing assembly.
It seems better... a little
Still, I can feel binding.

For info:
2 years ago, I changed all joints, upper control arms, ball joints and all tie rods.

Please share the solution for me.
Thank you so much about your opinions.

Check the front wheel bearing nut for proper torque. And also check if your truck is always in 4x4 mode.

I put 225 ft-lb on the front wheel bearing.
My car has awd, 4wd hi, and 4wd low.
I put in awd.

I heard that if I tried to remove 104, 30a fuse, the transfer case is not working, but still I can feel binding some place.

Going straight is good, but it is binding during sharp turns.

Do you think that if I change transfer case fluid, it will be good?

Thank you for your any opinion....

I had the same issue, but I pulled the fuse in the underhood fusebox and it solved my issue.

Hi friends,
Today, I changed transfer case fluid, front differential fluid and rear differential fluid.
But noting change...

Still I can feel vibration on tires.

The one of my friends said that the solution of the problem is universal joints.

So next week, I will check and order.
But please give me good brand and item number if you know.
I think two universal joints.
Is it a different size?
Should it be Greasable ?

Thank you for reading this my words and sharing your info.

There are U-Joints on the front and rear driveshaft, neither of those should be causing your binding. Do you have over sized tires or different rims?

More than likely front differential going bad. They SUCK in the AWD.

I checked U-joints.
They seems a good and solid situation.
4 months ago, my car was good.
I have used the original same size and rims.
When I changed front differential oil, it was so bad.
Also as I tried to remove 104, 30a fuse, the transfer case is not working, but still I can feel binding some place.

I am thinking right now.
I will try to visit Ford shop to know the reason.

Thank you for giving me your experiences and knowledge.

Without getting into my issues I have been researching the drive line a lot recently. In automatic awd it detects slippage in the rears and engages awd. When in awd the front limited slip differential will feel like that on pavement as it is doing what it does. It may also be wearing out. I have put in a used one and gotten rid of significant vibration. I am planning on having the other one rebuilt someday but this one is good for now. Its not that hard, just heavy. If that fluid was dark... I posted my issues about transfer case being from vehicle with 2wd option. I have found that rebuild kit to be $300 for the parts. I think your transfer case is working right. I just think it is engaging awd when you turn sharp and are on the gas.
