I have been looking at a newer 2nd gen Expy and noticed that they are coming with the 4Rw70. In my 99 I had the 4R100 which is a great, transmission. How does the 4Rw70 compare as far as towing as what I am looking for will have the tow package

The 70,75 e/w have a turbine speed sensor the 100 does not have. Simply put; the 100 has less finess when shifting or selecting gears.

Firm automatic gear shifting isn't necessarily a bad thing. Firm shifts have less slip between the shifts.

That is correct Sir...

Some where in there ford did changes. I'm not sure on actual dates. OP referred to a 99. So in my opinion it's the older style. But I could be completely wrong.

I know for a fact the 70-75 had TSS.

Still learning. :)

I only know this because I bought a 2000 Expy that had it's trans replaced but had a OSS sensor circuit malfunction code. I dug into it and the damn tranny did not have anyplace to put one but the wiring harness was hanging there over the tranny for them. I pulled the Tranny and found it was a 1998 - 1999 Transmission. Fortunately I found a 2000 model that has the TSS and OSS ports. Installing it this Saturday... I am ALWAYS learning... Definitely not a "know it all", just sharing what I had learned as it seemed relevant.
