Now go back and read your last post

Invest in the Ford service manual It may save you some headaches

WHAT?

You said in the post before my post:
"To troubleshoot the park aid requires a diagnostic tool."

What does asking if anybody "Knows" how much the diagnostic tool costs have to do with investing in a Ford Service Manual? The service manual apparently will not fix this problem without the Diagnostic Tool. So my point was, I will not pay the Ford Dealer to fix it nor will I buy the diagnostic tool if its overly expensive; in other words if the tool is expensive it can stay out of service.

So does anybody happen to know how much the Diagnostic Tool is?

Below are the Diagnostic Tool/s recommended by Ford to check the park system
You can check on e=bay or google to find the cost

As far as having the service manual it would give you the information on the codes the the tool will show and also the procedures to make the repairs needed

Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS)
418–F224,

New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester
418-F052, or equivalent diagnostic tool with appropriate cable.

I'm sure Ford uses/recommends a more expensive scanner for this, but you can do it for $20 - and a smartphone. There are several OBD2 adapters on amazon/ebay and their quality is hit and miss (unless you get into the $100 ones), but I can personally recommend this one https://www.amazon.com/RioRand-RD9-...8&qid=1472563403&sr=8-4&keywords=riorand+obd2 I have it an have been using it for almost a year without issue on my 2003 EB. I use this adapter in combination with free software called Forscan (it is available as an app on Android, Windows PC and I think IOS)

This will give you access to the Parking Assist System and will allow you to read trouble codes indicating which sensor is not working. You can also monitor each sensor in real time to see which ones are working, but a trouble code (that does not show up through a check engine light) is produced.

In addition to the normal CEL codes, this also gives you access to the ABS and AirBag system, as well as a few other Ford proprietary systems. I really think this is a must have for any backyard mechanic that really only works on their own car and the occasional friends.

Bavism: I just ordered that yesterday and messed around with FORscan. Seems like it'll do everything I need for tracking down my very intemittent advancetrac/abs issue.
Plus, for 5 bucks you can download the app on an android device if you don't want to lug a laptop in the passenger seat while driving. My work laptop has bluetooth so i'm just gonna use that vs the app.
Good stuff. Had a thread up for over a week on FTE and nothing, come here? WAY more info on expys. Great site

OP: When i got my 04 recently it had the little problems and one was the back up aid. Simple task(for me), turn ignition on, put in Reverse, step out and listen closely to each sensor. The one that isn't clicking? That's the bad one. You can move them around to determine if it's wiring or the sensor. For me it was just a sensor.
4 for 30 bucks on ebay. Work and look EXACTLY like oem. Good luck, it shouldn't give ya much grief. Also, the back up sensors do come in handy if you use your expy like mine for roadtrips. Went to chicago and the parking is TIGHT. Sensors helped out quite a bit and were well worth the 5 minutes of troubleshooting/installation and the 30 bucks for a brand new set.
I didn't replace all 4, got 3 spares inc ase another bites the dust.
Have a good one

I'm ordering the riorand. Which one though? There are 4 variations listed in that link. The one i got will not connect to my 04 expy. It will connect to my 2014 focus. I've heard they can be hit or miss, as you said. Going to return this one and get the riorand, just want to make sure i get the same one that you have so i know it'll work.

Thanks

**The one i got was a KONNWEI MINI OBD2 ELM327. Do NOT buy, at least not for a 2nd gen expy.

Thought I received my RioRand RD9 on Friday, turns out it is a counterfeit! DO NOT BUY any RioRand products off of Amazon. Go directly to RioRand at www.riorand.com and pay the extra $5.

Specifically do not buy from Amazon Seller CANATA. His units have a bulge on the back that will not allow the unit to stand upright on a flat surface and the OBD2 interface connector is 180 degrees out of a real RD9 unit. If you are not sure whether your unit is real or not, goto RioRand's Website and look at all the pictures they have posted for you to compare. If your unit is not EXACTLY as pictured on the website, its counterfeit!

The pictures look identical to me on both sites and they both show the same connector orientation... was that of the unit delivered different from the pics?

What makes you sure it's counterfeit? Is there some obvious performance issue too?

Regardless, I bought it direct from your link to RioRand, thanks.
