OK, so my A/C has been working great. Just today I noticed a plastic burning smell in the car, thought it was the truck in front of me. Then I noticed a small bit of smoke in the passenger footwell, sort of emanating from the lower right center console. Right about the same time the A/C stopped blowing cold.

The 15A fuse (#5 I think) was blown. The fuse in the engine bay tested good. I do not hear the A/C clutch engaging. A friend thinks it might be the blower motor (even though the motor is still blowing appropriately on each respective speed).

I took the center console out (what a pain) and did not see any 'smoking gun' of a wire burned. BTW, I am by no means an electrical guru but thought I could pinpoint a melted wire of sorts. Did not see one though.

Any thoughts? Anybody else ever experience something like this?

Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the battery asap. Don't reconnect until you find the melted wire or shorted component.
