I'm driving a 2006 Expy....Does anyone know definitively if the PCV valve has an effect on the buildup of the white-ish goo that accumulates on the underside of the oil fill cap in colder weather? I drive +/- 14 miles one way to work each day, and during the winter months, the goo appears....in the summertime, the goo is gone.

It could help pull that moisture out of the crankcase. It's certainly not a big dollar item to try, but I'd still expect to see some white gunk (especially during the winter months)

'Turns out that I went to Auto Zone (my home away from home) last evening and lo and behold, listed in the "Filter Book-Bible" is a note indicating that there's no PCV valve for the 2006 Expedition - it's an integral part of the valve cover, and a non-replaceable / non-service item. Who would have thought?

Thanks for the sage advice!

Well I went to Advanced Auto to get a PCV for my 2004 Ford Expedition 4.6L and the person behind the desk stated that there was not one for my vehicle as well. Wow! who would have known.

I don't know about the op's 5.4, but the 2004 4.6 has a PCV valve. Autozone just doesn't have one that they sell. Check on Napa's site or on a Ford part site.

I am driving an 03 Expedtion XLT and my service engine light just came on today, I stopped by my favorite auto parts store ( Advance Auto) to get it read only to find out that they don't do that any more, dont even keep the machines on site anymore. So I went to Auto Zone and had it read and it came back with 2198 Sensor failed to switch from rich to lean. Recommended to replace the PCV hose. Now if one of you could help me find exactly where it is located so I could give it a go I would greatly appreciate it.

Copied from the 2003 Ford Service Manual
