Whining noise between 1500-2500 RPM (solved)

So I got this Ford Expedition 2007 Limited last year. I love it.
It has now 75K miles.

A month ago it started doing this whining noise while I was driving in the freeway. The noise is on acceleration mostly, unless you stay in a particular RPM not always the same.

First I thought about the serpentine belt so I changed, belt, tensioner and 2 idle pulleys.
Sound was still there.

I was suspecting on the alternator, but I did a test: I took out the belt and started the engine.
The noise is still there on acceleration. I think that should rule out Alternator, Steering pump or any other moving parts related to the serpentine belt.

The noise is high pitch and very difficult to locate (I tried with an stethoscope), but I could assure is on the passenger side of the engine.

The noise is still there with the vehicle in Parking, just accelerating on the 1500-2500 RPM range.

Thanks docraymund. It looks like I'm going to need to go to a mechanic, I checked and the cranckshaft pulley is clear, nothing touching it.
But I've seen so many comments in this forum about mechanics not troubleshooting well and guessing while changing parts that I'm scared.

So, I brought it to a mechanic a friend recommended me and the diagnose was "leaking in the exhaust gaskets" passenger side more than driver side but in both. I left it and he said he is going to finish it tomorrow.
I'll post whether the issue gets solved.

I've never heard exhaust leaks that whistle before but there is a first for everything. Keep us informed.

Since when do broken rings whistle? I can see increased oil consumption, low compression, increased blowby and smoking while running. But whistling???

----SOLVED----
Alright, So I got my car from the mechanic 4 days ago and it is working as a charm.
The mechanic first look was that the Exhaust Manifold gaskets were leaking air and that was what was causing the noise I described. He disassemble them and found the right catalytic converter was broken. It was smashed like stereo foam small pieces. He called me so I could take a look. So his theory was that that might clogged the exhaust and could cause the air leak over time on the gaskets.
Solution was to machine both manifolds (actually he suggested to change the right one since was with a lot of difference) new gaskets and new catalytic converter.
There was when I realized how freaking expensive are Ford catalytic converter. So we got an aftermarket one and he had to cut and weld back the pipe with the new catalytic converter.
All the story for $1881 us dollars.
But I'm happy I have my car back and running.
