Finally got brave enough to change the spark plugs. After pulling the first one, I realized I bought Autolite AP103's and not APP103's. :(
On Rockauto's site I see Autolite XP103's, an Iridium version. The advertising hype indicates they are better in every way over platinum and double platinum. Cost difference is about $9 for 8 plugs.
Any benefit or negatives over the APP103's?
Current plugs have 126,000 miles (assuming they've never been changed) on them and the one I pulled so far doesn't look bad. The ground electrode shows a little erosion but the gap is still in spec.
I doubt I'll keep the Expy long enough to see another plug change. At my current usage another 100,000 miles will take 17 years. :)

This depends on who you ask. Whether or not the iridium plugs save gas/increase efficiency, I can't tell you. What I can say is I ran the XP 103's and didn't see any improvements from them. Didn't get any negatives either. Due to the different material, they theoretically should last longer before needing to be changed though.

For what it's worth, you might want to return autolites, and get motorcraft plugs. They just seem to have less issues than other brands. Also change the boots from coils to plugs. Sometimes when you try to reuse old boots you get a misfire. If your set on using autolites compare length, thread, nose projection. Make sure their are identical to old plugs coming out. What year is your vehicle?

Autolite APP103's are what's in it now.
After reading numerous articles and threads on the Internet I came away no more informed than when I started.
I ordered Autolite APP103's as that's what was in there and they have been fine.
I bought the truck a year and a half ago with 117,000 miles on it from my buddies tow yard. It was a police impound and I have no maintenance history. If Autolites were not factory installed then they have been changed at some point. As typical with the Internet today, I read 10 articles & threads and got 10 different answers....

Well you already have them, and since they were in your SUV go for it. Maybe a lot of our forum members just have bad luck, god knows I do. Over the past 2 years I've been on this site, I've read so many problems with other brands. Everything should be fine. Just don't over/ under tighten them. About 15 ft lbs seems to be about right.
